Retiring a Champ
There have been two participants to win the Championship on their first AND only event. Steve Finer in 2003 (Kansas City)and Bill Miller in 2009 (St. Louis). Talk about going out on top!
Goodnature Gone Wild
Larry Goodnature set the family bar low by taking possession of the Donkey Toolbox in 2002 (Albany). To make the family proud, Brian Goodnature came in with a championship finish in 2004 (St. Louis). Trying to repeat the superiority of Brian in St. Louis, Nate Goodnature’s Donkey finish in 2012 (St. Louis) set the standard for the family. Let it be known that Brian’s 131.5 championship total is the lowest in the history of the draft.
The Champs are Here
Ron Perry (2008 St. Louis) and Clark Robken (2012 St. Louis) share the title for most championship points scored with 157.5
You Go on Ahead
It’s a pun…..a TIE. There has been one tie for first place in the history of the draft. In 2017 (St. Louis), Chad Unsicker and Brock Gast battled for bragging rights. Unsicker was crowned champion on criteria.
The First Winner
Nate Skaar won the inaugural draft with a score of 146 points in 2002 (Albany). With only 10 participants that year, there is an (*) next to the feat. With 8 all-americans, only two unlucky individuals didn’t get a participation trophy.
Fool Me Once, shame on…shame on you. Fool me… You Can’t Get Fooled Again!
To date, there have been two repeat winners. Ron Perry (2008 St. Louis and 2014 Oklahoma City) and Greg Winn (2011 Philadelphia and 2022 Detroit) are the only participants to reach the summit of draft lore. Joel Thompson came close by finishing first (2019 Pittsburgh) and second (2012 St. Louis).
